Child Enticement Crime Alert!
October 9, 2008
This urgent child enticement crime alert was issued by the Kane County Sheriff’s Office this afternoon. The complete text of their alert follows:
Dear Neighborhood Watch Groups,
Many of you have already received two reports of suspicious circumstances involving a suspect that may have tried to abduct young children. In the attached WORD document, both accounts of the events are printed from the source.
Please discuss “Stranger Danger” with your children in a way they will understand the situation. Every parent should be at a heightened alert level and take additional precautions to make sure your children are safely supervised or escorted to and from school. Parents should also keep track of where your children are playing after school.
The Sheriff’s Department is aware of the suspect information and attempting to locate and identify the suspect(s). If you believe you have identified the suspect, please call 911 with that information as soon as it is learned.
The text of the word document follows:
This is an urgent Campton Hills Police alert and I wanted to get this information out to warn the residents of a potentially dangerous situation. Two children in the area of Hunters Hill and Chaffield reported that a man in a blue minivan had approached them and asked them to get into the vehicle and go to bible study with him. When the children refused, the vehicle sped off towards Rt. 64. The children described the driver as a male white, 30′s, slender build with dark brown hair and a receding hair line. There is no additional description on the van. Even though this may not be a criminal situation, the Campton Hills Police would like to identify the driver and vehicle to ascertain the motives of the driver. If anyone has any information or similar incidents have occurred, please contact CHPD at 630-584-0330.
Even though the motives in this incident were unclear, this is a good time to remind your children to never allow strangers to approach them or get into a vehicle with anyone they do not know. Just as important, your children should tell you about it when it happens and you should call the police.
In another incident, residents have reported that their mailboxes have been entered and some of their mail opened or rifled through. It is common for those looking to use you personal identification information to open accounts in your name. To prevent this, try and retrieve your mail as soon as possible and report any suspicious activity with people looking through mailboxes. Apparently offenders have been seen in the past and not reported.
