The Latest from Bob McQuillan and FACTS

July 2, 2009

Bob McQuillan forwarded an interesting note based on this article from today’s Sun Times.  Please check out the article and Bob’s note below.
” This points out what I have been trying to get across for 18 months.  Later this year, your property assessment will decrease because of the 3 year market downturn, but your taxes may actually increase.  This will be due to the fact that the local taxing bodies are not decreasing their spending or their budgets for the future. Chances are that they will need to increase the tax rate in order to pay for their spending.  Right now, the Geneva School district is developing their budget for July 2009 through June 2010.  Now is the time to question their spending and request that they reduce their budget.  Come June 1, 2010 it will be too late and your first installment of your property taxes will reflect the fact budget reductions are not being made.
Every local taxpayer has had to review their household budget and make necessary reductions, it is now time for the taxing bodies to do the same.  Don’t wait till it is too late, speak up now.”

PLEASE FORWARD THIS  TO YOUR FRIENDS & NEIGHBORS

    HEY Lunatic Fringe
I have a great idea: let’s cut the number of teacher in half and go to 40:1 student teacher ratios. that will save money!

Nice idea, thanks. Just try to fire that many union workers. ;)

Actually, let’s shutter Fabyan and fire all the new staff (admin, teachers, etc.) that have been newly hired to fill the school to whatever percentage of capacity it turns out to be (1/2, 2/3, 3/4). I have heard different estimates. Economic growth didn’t continue the way the Board predicted; but, that’s no reason to not open a new school once the taxpayers vote to do it (by only a 100 vote margin thanks to apathetic voters) according to the Board.

As Bob says above, now is the time to cut the next budget down to size.

Got something to say?
