Skyline heads to Lehi on Friday, Sept. 11, as a 46-point underdog against No. 6 Skyridge. Parry's Power Guide in the Deseret News rates the Falcons at 125.2 and the Eagles at 79.2, the widest gap on Skyline's schedule so far.

The Eagles enter at 2-2 after a season that has swung between blowouts in both directions. Skyline opened with a 10-14 loss to Stansbury on Aug. 14, then beat rival Olympus 21-9 on Aug. 21 in the Battle of the Rock. A 45-3 loss at Lone Peak on Aug. 28 followed before the Eagles routed Juan Diego 69-7 on Saturday, Sept. 5, to open Region 10 play.

That Juan Diego win showed what first-year head coach Brandon Matich's offense can do when it clicks. Running back Judah Valle scored three touchdowns and Jonah Mailei added two more, according to KSL Sports.

Matich started his coaching career at Skyline in 1997 as a linebackers coach. He returned to the program after 15 seasons leading East High, where he compiled a 138-60 record and won state titles in 2015 and 2016. He took over a roster that lost more than 20 players to graduation from the 2025 team that went 9-4 under former coach Marcus Mailei, according to the Millcreek Journal.

After the Aug. 21 win over Olympus, Matich told the Deseret News: "We challenged them at half to just take the short throws and be on time … Tate Johnson did an amazing job of stepping up and making plays."

Johnson, a transfer from Mountain View, has been the engine of Skyline's offense. He threw a 38-yard touchdown pass to Tui Will Taholo in the opener and scored two rushing touchdowns against Olympus.

The Falcons are a steep step up. Skyridge, a 6A program based in Lehi, is 3-1 after bouncing back from a season-opening 41-26 loss to Mountain Ridge on Aug. 13. They have won three straight, including a 21-14 comeback over Orem, a 31-24 win over Hun School of New Jersey and a 24-20 road victory at Liberty in Henderson, Nevada, on Sept. 5.

Quarterback Jagger Fountaine has thrown for 1,072 yards through four games, ranking 12th in Utah, per MaxPreps. He tossed three first-half touchdown passes in the win over Liberty, according to SI's Mountain West rankings. Skyridge coach Justin Hemm said after the Aug. 22 Orem win that he would put his defense up against any in the state.

Skyline was picked first in the preseason Region 10 coaches poll, and the Eagles still control their region fate. Friday's game is a nonleague matchup. Skyline returns home to host Jordan on Thursday, Sept. 17.
