Millcreek-area residents can drop off coats, hats, scarves, gloves and blankets at a nearby Red Hanger location through Nov. 20 as part of the 14th annual Warm Bodies, Warm Souls clothing drive.
The statewide drive, first reported by ABC4, launched Monday, Oct. 19. It collects gently used winter gear at participating Bank of Utah branches, Arctic Circle restaurants and Red Hanger dry cleaning shops. Donors can also bring new underwear. All items should be clean and in good condition, according to Bank of Utah's drive page.
Red Hanger's Millcreek shop at 3275 South 2300 East is a confirmed drop-off site. The phone number is 801-466-3010. Bank of Utah operates 22 branches statewide, and Arctic Circle has multiple Utah locations. Residents can use the interactive map on Bank of Utah's website to find the nearest participating site.
Every donor receives a coupon for a free double cheeseburger from Arctic Circle or a free shirt cleaning from Red Hanger.
The drive benefits 15 Utah nonprofits, including Salt Lake City's Crossroads Urban Center and The Road Home's Men's Resource Center. Other recipients stretch from Cache Community Food Pantry in the north to Switchpoint in the south.
Last year the campaign collected 561 bags of warm clothing and $10,040 in cash donations across 73 collection sites statewide, according to a press release cited by ABC4. The drive has run every year since 2011.
Jodi Lunt, chief development officer at Switchpoint, said in a statement that every donated coat, blanket or pair of gloves helps vulnerable Utahns stay warm through winter. Switchpoint is one of the 15 nonprofits receiving donations this year.
Donations are accepted through Friday, Nov. 20.
