Millcreek City Council takes up a Central Wasatch conservation discussion and multiple rezoning requests when it meets Monday, Sept. 14, at City Hall, 1330 East Chambers Ave.

The work session begins at 5:30 p.m., followed by the regular meeting at 7 p.m. The city listed the agenda on X, which also includes a parking ordinance review, a Constitution Week proclamation and oaths for the incoming Millcreek Youth Council.

The conservation item carries particular weight for a community that has fought to protect the Central Wasatch canyons. In October 2025, the Central Wasatch Commission, or CWC, unanimously passed a resolution opposing the federal government's proposed rescission of the 2001 Roadless Area Conservation Rule. That rule shields roughly 28,500 acres of Forest Service land in Big Cottonwood, Little Cottonwood, Mill Creek and Parleys Canyons from new road construction, mineral extraction and timber harvest. According to the CWC, 99% of more than 624,000 public comments opposed the rollback.

Canyon conservation drew hundreds of residents to City Hall on Jan. 28 when a proposed gravel mine in Parleys Canyon was under review. Mayor Cheri Jackson spoke at that gathering. "These are not hypotheticals … I visibly see the dust coming out of the canyon," Jackson said in March about the mine proposal. The specific focus of the Sept. 14 conservation discussion has not been disclosed.

Details on the rezoning requests, including addresses and applicants, were not listed in the posted agenda summary. The parking ordinance review also lacks published details on its scope or stage.
