Skyline erupted for 27 points in the second quarter and rolled to a 55-12 win over Jordan in Region 10 football Friday, Sept. 18.

The Eagles improved to 3-3 overall. Jordan fell to 2-4.

Saia Vake got Skyline on the board first with a 3-yard touchdown run with 1:02 left in the opening quarter. Skyline then piled on 27 points in the second.

Will Finau accounted for two second-quarter touchdowns, one rushing and one passing, as the Eagles built a commanding lead. Then Viliami Hosea delivered the highlight of the night: a 92-yard kickoff return for a touchdown with 18 seconds left before halftime.

Jordan managed two scores in the second quarter but could not keep pace.

Skyline's defense locked down after the break. The Beetdiggers did not score in the second half.

Vake wasn't done, either. He broke loose for a 45-yard touchdown run early in the third quarter, stretching the margin further in what became a running-clock finish.

The 43-point win is the largest of the season for first-year head coach Brandon Matich, who took over the program in August after 15 seasons at East High School. He compiled a 138-60 record there and won state titles in 2015 and 2016. Matich started his coaching career at Skyline in 1997 as a linebackers coach under Hall of Fame head coach Roger DuPaix.

When Skyline was named the preseason No. 1 pick in the Region 10 coaches poll in August, Matich told the Deseret News, "Skyline made a lot of strides last year and we hope to build off what Coach Mailei started."

Skyline went 9-4 under previous coach Marcus Mailei in 2025, reaching the 4A state playoff quarterfinals for the program's first winning season since 2021. The Sept. 18 rout of Jordan showed the Eagles can put up points in bunches under the new staff, according to the Deseret News Week 6 roundup.

Skyline is scheduled to travel to Cottonwood on Friday, Sept. 25. The Eagles then host Matich's former team, the East Leopards, on Friday, Oct. 2.
