Churchill Jr High in Millcreek is pursuing candidacy for the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program (MYP).

The Granite School District school, which serves 521 students in grades 6 through 8, announced the candidacy on its website on Tuesday, Sept. 22. The school said it could become one of a few Utah junior highs to offer the program.

The MYP is a framework for students aged 11 to 16 that covers eight subject groups. Students who complete it are positioned to enter the IB Diploma Programme in high school. Skyline High School is the only Granite district campus currently offering an IB program.

According to the IB's authorization guide, candidate schools must complete at least one academic year of trial implementation before earning full authorization. The candidacy phase typically spans 12 to 24 months.

The school has not announced a projected authorization date or disclosed costs tied to the effort.
