A vehicle struck an arrow board sign on northbound I-215 East near 3900 South early Tuesday, Oct. 27, sending a 16-year-old to Primary Children's Hospital in serious condition.

The crash happened at about 12:37 a.m., according to Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Zach Randall, as KSL first reported. The arrow board sign was on the left shoulder when the vehicle hit it, Randall said.

Multiple people were inside the vehicle at the time. Randall described the teen's injuries as serious. Officials have not released the conditions of the other occupants, and the crash remains under investigation, according to Utah Crash News.

The impact scattered debris across the travel lanes, according to a post by SLCScanner on X that included photos and video from the scene. Northbound I-215 East was closed at 3900 South after the crash, UDOT reported, according to Utah Crash News. The agency has not said when the lanes reopened.

The crash site sits along a stretch of I-215 that has been an active construction zone for months. The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) has been repairing bridges over 3900 South and Upland Drive in Millcreek as part of a bridge preservation project that was scheduled to run through Oct. 23. The crash occurred four days after that scheduled completion date. Whether the arrow board sign involved in the crash was connected to the UDOT project has not been confirmed.

UDOT's project page lists the overall bridge work as expected to reach completion by late October 2026. The project covers five utility crossings over I-215 between 700 East and Highland Drive, in addition to the bridge repairs.

No updated condition for the teen or a full incident report appeared in available public records as of Oct. 28. The conditions of the other vehicle occupants remain unknown.
