Skyline's bid to repeat as 5A boys golf state champion ended with a fourth-place finish at Bountiful Ridge Golf Course on Tuesday, Oct. 13.
The Eagles posted a team score of 293, 17 strokes behind champion Timpview, which shot 276 to claim its first title since 2015. Spanish Fork (280) took second and Olympus (292) third, as reported by the Deseret News.
Weather shaped the outcome. Rain, fog and poor visibility cut Day 1 short on Monday, Oct. 12, with only eight of the 16 teams finishing their rounds before play was suspended. Timpview and Spanish Fork completed just 12 holes. They finished those remaining holes early Tuesday morning, and conditions kept the tournament from playing its scheduled second round of 18.
The result: a one-round state championship decided by 18 holes instead of the usual 36.
Sophomore Bodie Green led Skyline with a 71, placing him among the top 25 individuals. Perry Shaffer, also a sophomore and the Region 6 medalist during the regular season, shot 73 to finish in the top 25 as well. Green and Shaffer are eligible to return for three more seasons.
Skyline entered the tournament as the defending champion after edging Olympus by one stroke at TalonsCove in October 2025, according to Deseret News coverage of that championship. UHSAA records list Skyline with 15 all-time state championships in boys golf.
Timpview freshman Nick Miller earned medalist honors with a 62, finishing 9 under par and four strokes clear of senior teammate Calvin Lillywhite (66). Sophomore Christian Whitmore (70) tied for fifth.
"We were hitting balls at 6:45 a.m. in the dark to get warmed up," Timpview head coach Jeff Ward told the Deseret News about the weather-disrupted schedule.
Region 6 rival Brighton finished seventh at 298, while Olympus took third at 292. Skyline had topped both teams in Region 6 regular-season averages, posting a 287.6 to Olympus' 293.4 and Brighton's 293.8, according to Deseret News region recaps.
The 5A boys golf season is complete. Green and Shaffer will anchor Skyline's pursuit of a 16th state title in fall 2027.
