Skyline's girls soccer team returns to the 5A state tournament after missing the 2025 postseason, with the No. 14 Eagles traveling to face No. 3 Olympus at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
The matchup is a steep climb. Olympus has won six straight against Skyline, including two lopsided results this season: 4-1 on Aug. 27 and 4-0 on Sept. 22. The Titans (12-4, 9-3 Region 6) reached last year's 5A championship game before falling 2-1 to Bountiful and return multiple all-state players.
First Team All-State forward Keira Bradley leads Olympus with eight goals and seven assists. First Team All-State defender Emma Peterson has added five goals, according to the Deseret News' 5A first-round preview. Seventh-year head coach Jamie Evans's squad has outscored opponents 44-19 this season, with its only losses coming against No. 1 Bountiful (twice) and No. 4 Brighton.
Still, Skyline (6-10, 3-9 Region 6) has shown it can pull an upset. The Eagles knocked off No. 7 Timpview 3-2 on Aug. 18 and closed the regular season with a 1-0 shutout of Alta on Oct. 6.
That turnaround matters. A year ago, Skyline went 1-17 overall and 0-12 in Region 6.
First-year head coach Jordyn Roth took over a program at rock bottom. "We're feeling really positive about starting fresh and are looking forward to surprising watchers," Roth said in the Deseret News' preseason capsule published Aug. 1, before the season began. The Eagles' six wins this fall are already five more than the entire 2025 campaign.
Annika Rollins paces Skyline's attack with four goals. Lucy Silon has been the primary playmaker with two goals and five assists, while Caroline Lipson has chipped in three goals. Rylee Brewster adds another dimension from midfield with one goal and three assists. Goalkeeper Marie Distal has recorded four shutouts despite the team conceding 39 goals in 16 games.
The winner advances to face either No. 6 Pleasant Grove or No. 11 Viewmont in the quarterfinals.
