Kelsey Jones, a local student artist, painted a colorful fish mural along Murray-Holladay Road and earned a framed plaque from the Millcreek City Council for the work.

Council members presented the plaque at their Tuesday, Aug. 25, meeting at City Hall, 1330 E. Chambers Ave. Jones addressed the council about her inspiration and creative process behind the mural, which features stylized fish painted along a blue wall in a residential stretch of the road.

"People want art," Jones told the council.

The city described the project as "brightening up" the corridor. Photos shared by the city's official social media account on Friday, Aug. 28, show the finished piece set against tall hedges and houses in the surrounding neighborhood. Progress images capture white fish outlines repeated along a blue concrete railing beside the sidewalk, with one fish filled in teal. The completed mural adds bold color to what is otherwise a standard residential fence line.

Jones is the latest Millcreek artist to bring public work to the community. In May, a 3D mural titled "The Unifying Journey of Water" by artist Alysia Mackenzie and assistant Erica Petrini was installed at Millcreek Common. That piece reflects the city's motto, "Connected by Nature," and highlights local landscapes.

The fish mural marks a different approach. It sits along a neighborhood sidewalk rather than a civic gathering space, putting art directly in the path of residents walking or driving through the area.

Details about who commissioned the Murray-Holladay Road mural or whether it sits on public or private property were not available as of publication.

The mural is visible to anyone walking or driving along Murray-Holladay Road between Millcreek's residential neighborhoods.
