Older adults in the Millcreek area can join a free fall prevention workshop that runs through Wednesday, Nov. 25.
Stepping On, a seven-week program, began its latest session Wednesday, Oct. 7, with two-hour classes held once a week, according to the Millcreek Journal events calendar. The program is open to adults at risk of falling, those who fear falling and those who have fallen in the past year. Caregivers and family members may also attend.
Guest speakers including physical therapists, optometrists, pharmacists and law enforcement officers visit each session to cover balance exercises, medication effects, home hazard removal and goal-setting, according to UCHealth, which offers the program nationally. UCHealth describes the program as proven to reduce falls by 31%.
Small groups of 14 to 18 participants meet in community settings such as senior centers and churches. Earlier Millcreek-area sessions ran in June, August and September.
The current session's venue and registration contact were not listed on the events calendar. Residents can find the listing on the Millcreek Journal site for updates.
