Eleven candidates are competing for the vacant District 1 seat on the Granite School District Board of Education, and the full board will interview each of them Tuesday, Aug. 25, starting at 4 p.m.

The District 1 seat represents Millcreek-area schools, including Skyline High School. The meeting agenda lists nothing else on the docket besides a welcome and adjournment, meaning the entire three-hour session is devoted to filling the vacancy.

The candidates, in interview order: Amber Book (4:15 p.m.), Erin Doty (4:30 p.m.), Benjamin Ungricht (4:45 p.m.), Hannah Paisley Zoulek (5 p.m.), Courtney Vichess (5:15 p.m.) and Allison Armstrong (5:30 p.m.).

The evening slate resumes with Matthew Tracy (6 p.m.), Janelle Williamson (6:15 p.m.), Elena Leppard (6:30 p.m.), Colby Wilson (6:45 p.m.) and Marilyn Taft (7 p.m.).

Each candidate gets a 15-minute window with the board. The district has not publicly stated why the seat is vacant or announced a date for the appointment vote.

Board President Nicole McDermott leads the seven-member board that will question the candidates and ultimately appoint one to fill the District 1 term. The district, which serves more than 58,000 students across the Salt Lake area, published the full agenda Monday, Aug. 24, on its website.

The meeting is open to the public at the district offices, 2500 South State Street in South Salt Lake. Residents who cannot attend in person should check the district's website for any livestream or recording options.

The board's next regular meeting has not been posted to the agenda portal as of Monday evening.
