Tu'i Will hauled in a 32-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Tate Johnson with 2:12 left in the fourth quarter Friday, Aug. 21, lifting Skyline past rival Olympus 21-16 in the Battle of the Rock.

The win at Olympus High School moves the Eagles to 1-1 after their season-opening loss to Stansbury and narrows the all-time series to 29-30-1 in favor of the Titans.

Skyline trailed 2-0 at halftime after an Olympus safety midway through the second quarter. The Eagles came out firing in the third, with Johnson punching in a 1-yard run at 10:56 and adding a 12-yard scoring run two minutes later to build a 14-2 cushion heading into the final period.

Olympus answered fast.

Sam Ngata returned an interception 39 yards for a touchdown, and after the PAT by Henry O'Neil the Titans trailed just 14-9. That set up Will's go-ahead grab from Johnson on a 32-yard strike, pushing Skyline's lead to 21-9 with just over two minutes to play.

Olympus still had time. Preston Ferran found Ngata again on a 7-yard touchdown pass with 1:23 remaining, cutting the deficit to 21-16, but the Titans couldn't recover the onside kick.

Johnson accounted for all three Skyline touchdowns, two on the ground and one through the air. Will, who also caught a 38-yard TD in the Week 1 loss to Stansbury on Aug. 13, has emerged as Johnson's top target in coach Brandon Matich's first season leading the program.

The nonregion result is a confidence-builder for a Skyline squad that blew a 10-0 lead in that Stansbury opener before falling 14-10. The Aug. 21 comeback showed the Eagles can close a game when it tightens late, according to the official game page scoring summary.

Both teams sit at 1-1. According to Deseret News' Week 2 roundup, the victory was one of several tight finishes across the state's Class 4A slate.

Skyline's schedule lists Lone Peak as the Week 3 opponent.
