Millcreek District 4 Councilwoman Bev Uipi has been selected Second Vice President of AAPI LEAD, a national organization representing Asian American and Pacific Islander elected and appointed officials across the country.

The city announced the selection on X on Wednesday, Aug. 26, saying Millcreek leadership is reaching the national stage. Uipi has served on the AAPI LEAD board since the organization's founding in 2024.

The role is a step up.

Her new position elevates her to the executive officer ranks of a group that draws members from 26 states and the District of Columbia, according to AAPI LEAD's website. The organization's mission is to facilitate meaningful participation of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in the democratic process at all levels of government.

The board installation took place July 19 at AAPI LEAD's 3rd Annual National Summit in Los Angeles.

Uipi is now in her fourth term representing District 4 after winning reelection in November 2025 with 82% of the vote. She also serves as a commissioner on the Central Wasatch Commission. She holds a Master of Public Administration degree and is bilingual in English and Tongan.

Her father, Phil Uipi, was the first Tongan and Pacific Islander elected to the Utah state legislature, according to the Young Pacific Leaders organization.

AAPI LEAD launched in June 2024 at a summit in Las Vegas that drew more than 350 leaders. It describes itself as the first national membership-based organization created for and by AAPI elected and appointed officials, according to coverage of the launch.
