A reported explosion blew out at least one window and ignited a fire inside a unit at the Stonehedge Apartments on Tuesday afternoon, but no one was hurt.

Unified Fire Authority spokesman Ricardo Rivera told Gephardt Daily that crews were dispatched to 479 E. Stonehedge Drive around 3:15 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25, after a caller reported an explosion that shook the entire building. Firefighters arrived to find smoke and flames inside the unit, with glass scattered outside from a blown-out window.

Crews from UFA and South Salt Lake launched a fire attack and contained the blaze to the single apartment where it started. No one was inside.

"Because of their quick response, we were able to limit just the damage to that one apartment right now," Rivera said.

No injuries or smoke inhalation were reported among residents or firefighters.

About six apartments were evacuated Tuesday afternoon while investigators examined the unit. Rivera said damage appeared confined to the affected apartment, and residents of the other units were expected to be allowed back. He described significant cosmetic damage inside but could not confirm whether the blast caused structural damage.

The cause remains under investigation. Rivera said investigators had no determination beyond the initial report of an explosion, adding that the incident is "still being investigated."

Utility disruptions were limited to the apartment complex. Unified Police Department officers and utility crews also responded to the scene.
