Hillcrest quarterback K'Von Houston completed 17 of 23 passes for 309 yards and four touchdowns against Cottonwood in Week 3.

Houston also rushed for a score as the Huskies won 51-0, one of two lopsided Granite District victories highlighted in the Deseret News' statewide top-performances roundup published Wednesday, Sept. 2. The Class 4A quarterback accounted for five total touchdowns on the night.

In another Granite District shutout, Alta defensive back Thomas Deckart returned two interceptions for touchdowns in the second quarter alone. The Class 5A Hawks blanked Granger 49-0.

Alta entered the season replacing several key contributors from last year's roster. Head coach Blake Burdette said in an Aug. 5 Deseret News preseason preview that the turnover would give a new group of players a chance to step into larger roles and prove themselves. Deckart's two-pick-six game showed that group can produce.

The Hawks also beat Bingham 13-12 on Aug. 20, with safety Lucas Pagel recording two interceptions to seal that win. Alta now has two victories to open the season.

Not every Granite District school fared as well in Week 3. Taylorsville fell 54-7 to Uintah, whose quarterback Landon Woods threw for 183 yards and three touchdowns while rushing for two more. Kearns lost 46-0 to Payson, where receiver Valentin Sanchez caught six passes for 112 yards and two scores and returned a kick for a touchdown.

The combined margin in those four games involving Granite District teams: 200-7. Week 4 opponents and game times for Hillcrest and Alta had not been announced as of Wednesday.
