Ambulance routing for Millcreek-area residents returned to normal Tuesday, Aug. 18, after Intermountain Medical Center in Murray ended a lockdown that had diverted emergency traffic away from the south Salt Lake Valley's primary trauma center.

The all-clear came Tuesday morning.

IMC spokesperson Jess Gomez confirmed the reopening in a statement to ABC4: "There was never a threat to caregivers or patients – and no incidents on campus."

The hospital activated what it calls a Secure Campus Response on Monday, Aug. 17, after shooting victims from a fatal incident at a Kearns church funeral were transported to the facility. The protocol restricted all public access, cancelled some outpatient appointments and rerouted incoming ambulances to other hospitals. As we reported Monday, the diversion lasted more than three hours, though Gomez characterized it as "a short period of time."

Gomez said all patients already inside the hospital continued to receive care during the lockdown. IMC is now working to reschedule appointments that were cancelled, and ambulance routing has returned to normal.

A large police presence surrounded IMC well into Monday evening. Unified Police Department Assistant Chief Justin Hoyal said at a Monday news conference that multiple law enforcement agencies secured the campus "out of an abundance of caution" after the Kearns shooting, which left one man dead and two others critically injured at approximately 11:25 a.m.

The lockdown's impact extended beyond emergency patients. Kristy Nebeker told ABC4 on Monday that she waited hours outside the hospital unable to reach her daughter, who had been admitted after a separate car crash earlier that day.

IMC is the primary trauma center for the south Salt Lake Valley, including Millcreek. Residents whose appointments were cancelled can expect a call from the hospital to reschedule.
