Skyline's boys golf team claimed the Region 6 championship with a 287.6 stroke average, beating Olympus by nearly six strokes.
The Eagles now head to the 5A state tournament at Bountiful Ridge Golf Course in Bountiful on Monday, Oct. 12, and Tuesday, Oct. 13, looking to extend a run of six titles in seven years. Skyline has won six of the past seven 5A championships, according to Deseret News region recaps, and last year's squad beat Olympus by a single stroke at TalonsCove to claim the 2025 crown.
As we reported Oct. 6, sophomore Perry Shaffer earned Region 6 medalist honors with a 69.3 average. He won two of the final three region tournaments, capping the season with a 66 at The Ridge Golf Course on Sept. 28.
But Skyline's depth is what separated the Eagles from the field. Marcus Davis-Condie posted a 71.3 region average, Bodie Green averaged 72.1, and George Irvine came in at 73.7. All four ranked among the top individual scorers in Region 6.
The Sept. 28 finale showed just how deep the roster runs. Skyline placed five golfers in the top five that day: Shaffer (66), Green (67), Josh Bekker (68), Davis-Condie (69) and Boone Brown (69).
Davis-Condie, Green and Brown all scored in the top 20 at last year's state tournament, giving coach Kenny James a tested core heading into the postseason. In a Deseret News feature published Oct. 5, James said of Shaffer: "Perry has a very calm demeanor and doesn't seem to be bothered by important situations."
Olympus finished second in Region 6 at 293.4, led by Wyatt Biagi's 70.7 average. Brighton was close behind at 293.8.
The state field looks tight. Eight 5A teams posted season averages within eight strokes of each other. West Field enters with the lowest team average in 5A at 285.8, led by Ethan Luna's 67.0 individual mark. Skyline's 287.6 ranks among the best, but the margin for error is slim.
James has coached Skyline to six state titles since 2019, according to UHSAA records. After last year's one-stroke win over Olympus, he told the Deseret News in October 2025: "… No one's going to remember who won the region, it's who played the best for two days."
The Eagles tee off Monday, Oct. 12, at Bountiful Ridge Golf Course, 2430 Bountiful Blvd. in Bountiful, with the two-day tournament wrapping up Tuesday, Oct. 13.
