Skyline sophomore Perry Shaffer fired a 66 at Ridge Golf Course in the final Region 6 match to claim medalist honors for the fall season.

Shaffer won two of the last three region tournaments and finished with a 69.3-stroke average, the Deseret News reported on Monday, Oct. 5. The late surge vaulted him past a tight field in one of the state's strongest boys golf regions.

Skyline coach Kenny James called Shaffer "a talented and hard-working young man who can do anything with a golf club in his hand." James said Shaffer's composure sets him apart.

"He stays calm and doesn't let adversity get to him," James said. "Perry had a great year in a very good region."

The medalist finish caps a sharp improvement for Shaffer, who carried a 70.9 stroke average through eight rounds before closing with the 66 at Ridge to pull his season mark down to 69.3.

Shaffer is no stranger to big moments. As a freshman, he helped Skyline win the 2025 5A state championship at TalonsCove Golf Course in Saratoga Springs, where the Eagles edged Olympus 575 to 576. Shaffer shot 149 over two days, tying for 22nd individually.

He won't be alone in the state-tournament push. Teammates Marcus Davis-Condie and Bodie Green both ranked among Region 6's top individual scorers during the regular season. Davis-Condie carried a 71.7 average through eight rounds, and Green posted a 73.6.

Skyline led Region 6 in team stroke average at 290.1 through the Week 8 standings, more than three strokes ahead of Brighton at 294.0. Woods Cross sat at 294.4, Olympus at 294.7 and Viewmont at 302.1.

The Eagles have built a dynasty in 5A boys golf. The Deseret News reported that Skyline had won seven of the past eight 5A state titles as of the October 2025 championship. A win at the 2026 state tournament would extend that streak to eight of nine.

The 5A state tournament is expected in mid-October, and Shaffer will carry the region's top individual average into the field for the defending champions.
