A man died Wednesday, Aug. 12, after his SUV veered off the road, struck a cement post and went airborne near 3900 South and 1300 East in Millcreek, according to Fox 13, citing Unified Police.

The single-vehicle crash occurred just before noon. The vehicle came to rest on its side, and the driver was found trapped inside, unconscious and not breathing. Responders performed CPR on scene, but the man was pronounced dead a short time later.

The SUV also struck a fence and a mailbox at 1396 E. 3900 South before coming to rest. Witnesses reported the crash to authorities, KUTV reported.

Unified Police have not released the driver's identity, pending notification of next of kin. The cause remains under investigation. Police said it was not immediately clear what led to the crash.

The crash shut down traffic for hours.

Unified Police closed 3900 South in both directions from just west of Highland Drive to 1300 East while investigators worked the scene, according to KSL.

The fatality is the second death on 3900 South in Millcreek in less than three weeks. A longboarder was killed in a late-night crash on 3900 South on Saturday, July 25, roughly 425 feet west of Wednesday's rollover site. A motorcyclist also died July 17 at Wasatch Boulevard and Millrock Drive, and a bicyclist was critically injured July 22 near Fort Union Boulevard.
