A longboarder was struck and killed by a car on 3900 South in Millcreek late Saturday, July 25, 2026. Unified Police responded to the scene and afterward urged riders to stay off roadways after dark.

The crash happened at 11:57 p.m. near 971 East on 3900 South, Unified Police Sgt. Aymee Race told ABC4. A small, two-door sedan was traveling westbound on 3900 South when it hit the back of the longboarder, who was also heading westbound in the travel lane.

The victim died at the scene. Police have not released the person's name or age.

The driver remained at the scene. Race said there were no reports of intoxication.

Police safety message

Following the crash, Unified Police issued a direct reminder: drivers need to watch for people in the roadway at night, and riders on longboards, skateboards, and similar devices should use sidewalks instead of the street.

Race told ABC4 that riders should use sidewalks to reduce future risk. The department also urged motorists to be aware of their surroundings in low-visibility conditions.

3900 South is a busy east-west corridor that lacks separated bike lanes or a multi-use path. Millcreek has been building active transportation infrastructure elsewhere, including bike lanes and a multi-use path along Wasatch Boulevard where construction began in May 2026, but that project does not extend to this stretch of road.

Police have not identified the victim or indicated whether the crash remains under active investigation. No charges have been announced. The cause of the crash, whether a visibility issue, speed, or another factor, has not been disclosed.

Unified Police did not release information about the sedan's driver beyond confirming the person stayed at the scene and showed no signs of impairment.
