Skyline and Highland will meet Thursday, Oct. 8, with sole possession of first place in 4A Region 10 on the line.

Both teams enter the game unbeaten in region play at 4-0. Highland (6-1 overall) holds the top spot in the MaxPreps standings, while Skyline (5-3) sits second. Kickoff is 7 p.m. at Highland.

The Eagles have outscored region opponents 235-31 across four games, beating Juan Diego Catholic 69-7, Jordan 61-12, Cottonwood 56-0 and East 49-12. Their three losses all came in nonregion play against Stansbury, Lone Peak and Skyridge.

Highland has been just as dominant in region, posting wins of 55-0 over Cottonwood, 35-0 over East, 62-0 over Juan Diego Catholic and a tighter 34-29 victory over Murray on Sept. 25. The Rams' lone loss was 42-21 at Westlake in the season opener.

That Murray game showed what Highland can do under pressure. Rams quarterback Will Bauman, who also plays defensive back, threw an 80-yard touchdown pass to Adriean King Boyd and intercepted Murray's Dru Reuss, returning it 55 yards for the go-ahead score with 2:20 left, according to the Deseret News.

"I know he likes to make plays with his legs and that he will try to make something happen. He's really good at it, but that time I read it right," Bauman said of Reuss after the Sept. 25 game.

Highland coach Kautai Olevao warned after the Sept. 25 Murray win that penalty discipline needed to improve for the Rams to keep winning.

Skyline head coach Brandon Matich is in his first season leading the Eagles. Matich spent 15 seasons as head coach at East High School, compiling a 138-60 record with two state titles in 2015 and 2016, before stepping down in June 2025, according to the Millcreek Journal. He began his coaching career at Skyline in 1997 under Hall of Fame coach Roger DuPaix.

Matich inherited a roster that lost more than 20 players to graduation from the 2025 team, which went 9-4 and reached the 4A state playoff quarterfinals under former coach Marcus Mailei.

Noland Parry's Power Guide in the Deseret News rates Skyline at 76.3 and Highland at 68.3, giving the Eagles an eight-point edge.

The loser won't fall out of the playoff picture, but seeding matters. The UHSAA bracket reveal is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 17, on KSLsports.com. Both teams close the regular season on Wednesday, Oct. 14, with Skyline hosting Murray and Highland traveling to Jordan.
