Millcreek-area residents 60 and older can sign up for a free 10-week class that tackles sleep, exercise, finances, falls prevention and five other topics central to aging well, starting Monday, Aug. 24.

The Aging Mastery Program, offered through Salt Lake County Aging and Adult Services, meets weekly on Mondays from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at the Taylorsville Senior Center, 4743 Plymouth View Dr., Taylorsville. The session runs through Monday, Nov. 2.

The center sits about three miles south of Millcreek's border, making it one of the closest county senior facilities for East Millcreek and Canyon Rim residents.

What the class covers

Guest experts lead each week's session. The eight-topic curriculum includes sleep, exercise, healthy eating, relationships, finances, falls prevention, medication management and community engagement.

The program was developed by the National Council on Aging to help older adults build lasting health and lifestyle habits. A peer-reviewed study of the curriculum found it aims to help participants implement behavior changes that promote healthy aging across multiple life areas simultaneously, rather than addressing one issue in isolation.

Recurring county offering

Salt Lake County has run the Aging Mastery Program on a recurring basis. A previous session met on Thursdays from June 11 through Aug. 13 at the same location. The new session shifts to Mondays.

The Taylorsville Senior Center is open Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., and offers other programming beyond this class.

How to sign up

No registration deadline or capacity limit is listed publicly. Residents interested in attending should call 385-468-3370 to confirm availability before the first session on Aug. 24.

The program is free. It is open to anyone 60 or older.
