Millcreek residents who walk to Scotts Park will get new sidewalks this fall, part of a curb-and-gutter project the city says will also keep stormwater pollutants out of the 6.21-acre neighborhood park.

The city announced Aug. 20 on X that crews will install curb, gutter and sidewalks along the south side of Scott Avenue between 700 East and 900 East. Construction is scheduled to run from September through November.

The corridor currently lacks sidewalks on its south side, leaving no dedicated pedestrian path along a block that borders Scotts Park's playground, volleyball courts and horseshoe pits.

What the project does

The new curb-and-gutter system will channel stormwater runoff away from Scotts Park, which sits at 872 E. Scott Ave. The city said the infrastructure will direct pollutants away from the park while the added sidewalks address pedestrian safety along the same stretch.

No budget has been released.

Scotts Park is a 6.21-acre site with restrooms, a playground, volleyball courts and horseshoe pits, according to Salt Lake County Parks. The stretch of Scott Avenue between 700 and 900 East runs directly along the park's southern boundary.

What's not yet known

The city has not published a project budget, a funding source or engineering details explaining how the curb-and-gutter system will redirect runoff. No dedicated project page exists on millcreekut.gov, and no named city official has commented publicly on the work beyond the city's corporate social media account.

It is also unclear whether the construction will require lane closures or detours along Scott Avenue during the three-month build.

The project is separate from the 500 East microsurfacing work the city completed earlier this summer.
