Four highway ramps near Redwood Road shut down Tuesday, Oct. 6, for roughly 20 days of bridge work. The closures add new detours for Millcreek-area drivers who use I-215 and I-80.
The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) announced the closures Oct. 1 as part of the I-215 West Improved project, a $150 million effort to reconstruct I-215 West from State Route 201 to just north of I-80.
Which ramps are closing
The four ramps going dark at 4 a.m. Tuesday:
- Eastbound I-80 to Redwood Road
- Northbound I-215 to Redwood Road
- Westbound SR-201 to northbound I-215
- Redwood Road (near westbound SR-201) to northbound I-215
All four are expected to reopen in late October, though UDOT said in its Oct. 1 announcement that schedules are weather-dependent and subject to change.
Other closures nearby
Two other ramps near the same interchange are already closed on shorter timelines. The northbound I-215 ramp to California Avenue reopens Tuesday, Oct. 6, at 4 a.m. The California Avenue ramp to northbound I-215 reopens Friday, Oct. 9, at 4 a.m.
One closure stretches much longer. A separate Redwood Road on-ramp to northbound I-215, distinct from the SR-201-area ramp in the 20-day list above, is shut down through July 2027.
The bigger project
The I-215 West Improved project is replacing 18 bridge decks, repairing 12 additional bridges, rehabilitating 30 bridges total and repaving 14 miles of ramps on I-80 and California Avenue. UDOT budgeted $150 million for the work, which is expected to wrap up in late summer 2027.
The closures sit at the I-80 and I-215 interchange west of Millcreek city limits, but the ramps serve commuters traveling to and from the area on both freeways.
Drivers can check real-time conditions and detour routes at udottraffic.utah.gov or on the UDOT Traffic app.
